The UAE Ministry of Economy and Tourism has intensified its fight against digital piracy, blocking more than 13,600 websites for copyright infringement in the first quarter of 2026. The move reflects a significant escalation in the country’s efforts to protect intellectual property and regulate digital content.
The crackdown was carried out through the InstaBlock initiative, a rapid response system designed to detect and disable infringing platforms in real time. Powered by advanced artificial intelligence tools, the system allows authorities to monitor online activity, process complaints instantly, and take down illegal websites with speed and precision. The scale of enforcement marks a sharp rise compared to previous years, with blocked websites increasing by nearly 400 percent year on year. Since the launch of the InstaBlock Centre in early 2025, authorities have taken down more than 47,000 violating platforms, signaling a sustained and aggressive approach to combating piracy. Officials say the initiative is not just about enforcement but also about strengthening the broader digital ecosystem. By protecting copyrights and ensuring fair use of content, the UAE aims to boost confidence among creators, broadcasters, and global media companies operating in the region. The effort also aligns with the country’s long term vision to position itself as a leader in innovation and the knowledge economy.
The campaign saw heightened activity during Ramadan, a period when digital content consumption typically spikes. Authorities maintained round the clock monitoring to ensure immediate action against violations, working in coordination with telecom regulators and industry partners.
As digital piracy continues to evolve, the UAE’s approach highlights a growing global trend. Governments are increasingly leveraging technology driven solutions to safeguard intellectual property, signaling that the future of content protection will be defined by speed, automation, and international cooperation.
